The importance of the SAT exam

Since 1901, the SAT exam has been the most important college entrance exam, generally for universities based in the United States. However, it is taken worldwide and when combined with an American GED® diploma provides the opportunity to enter any university.

The main objective of the SAT is to measure how well a high school student is prepared for college.

In short, it is American selectivity. The SAT score, along with the Baccalaureate grades, letters of recommendation, interviews, and the GED certificate, are very important facts when it comes to being admitted to a university in the United States.

The relevance of the SAT score varies from one university to another, however, it must be clear that the higher the SAT score, the greater options the student will have to be admitted to the desired university. Getting a very good score is very important. Not only will it help you get into the best universities in the United States, but, based on your score, it will also help you get student scholarships.

How long is the SAT exam?

The SAT lasts 3 hours and 15 minutes, with breaks. In addition, the student has the option to take the optional “essay”. In this case, the student will receive an additional 50 minutes to do so.

Time per section and number of questions:

  • Reading: The Reading part lasts 65 minutes and consists of 52 questions.
  • Writing and Language: This section of the exam lasts 35 minutes and consists of 44 questions.
  • Math: The SAT math section is 80 minutes long and has 58 questions.
  • Optional trial: As we have already mentioned, the optional “trial” lasts 50 minutes.

The sum of the scores of the 3 sections is 1600 points. Everything that exists as SAT scores are recommended minimums.

In other words, a university may recommend that, based on a given profile, a minimum of 1000 points between reading / writing and mathematics, while other universities request a specific minimum per section, although this is not usually the norm.

How to prepare for the SAT

The same habits and decisions that lead to success in school will help you prepare for the SAT. The best strategy to prepare for the exam is:

  • Take challenging courses.
  • Do homework.
  • Prepare for tests and exams.
  • Ask and answer many questions.

Why is it so important?

  • Sports scholarships: This exam is important to obtain the necessary support from organizations that regulate university sports. The NCAA and NAIA request to take the SAT as part of their requirements. If a good result is not obtained within the exam, students will not be able to train or obtain sports scholarships.
  • Admission to universities: almost all universities in the United States request this exam within their requirements. At universities with a high academic reputation, an excellent result will be the key to being admitted.
  • Academic scholarships: obtaining a high score on the SAT exam opens the possibility of receiving academic scholarships at the universities that offer them. These scholarships can range from $ 5,000 to $ 30,000 per year, depending on the outcome and the university.

Our courses are designed to prepare students to successfully pass the SAT with grades good enough to advance their tertiary education. All courses are taught online and are part-time, with classes typically twice a week.
